Dear colleagues,
I am currently leading a project called Euradionantes, which objective is to implement a European radio in Nantes, based on a pedagogic project for students from many different Eu countries and interested in communication and/or journalism.
In Nantes, the local radio frequencies market will be reviewed in May and a competition is taking place between associative and commercial radios to obtain a 'spot'.
We (I and the association supporting this project ) are convinced that there is a room for Eur@dio Nantes.
To complete our answer to the call for tender, it is vital for the project to provide support letters from EU universities, and journalists that could be entrance points for a further cooperation in the case we would obtain an broadcasting authorization.
In brief, I'm seeking 'declaration of interest' letters from universities, and journalists showing their moral support to the project . And it's quite urgent if you're interested!
I'am attaching the press release (in English)
Our fundamental objective is to favour the 'European spirit' both locally for French people by introducing the idea in their daily life..and more widely for the students that will later be media actors of their time.
Thank you for your support
Best regards
Laurence Aubron, journaliste.
To understand, here's a press release:
Eur@dio Nantes: A European Radio Station in Nantes!
To offer for the first time an “international local” radio station, covering Nantes' current events in view of events taking place in other European countries: that's the challenge of Eur@dio Nantes.
This project, presently in development, aims to build in Nantes a media which is both local through its airwave broadcasting, European through its editorial direction and its team and international through its Web broadcasting.
This means that Eur@dio Nantes' news team will include 10 future journalists from different EU countries, that will spend five months to one year in Nantes to confront local events with the diversity of their cultures and experiences from their native countries. Supervised by a team of seasoned professionals, these 10 European students will be joined each month by a journalist from a different European national news media, which will act as senior editor of the station for a week. At the end of this one year, these European students will have had an extraordinary experience - which will moreover count as part of their curriculum - that will be shared by all the listeners of this innovating station.
Eur@dio Nantes wishes to bring a new, original and citizen vision of an ever-evolving Europe: a Europe of culture, work, society, every day life and the people that contribute to its making. A reality familiar and different at the same time, palpable (tangible), alive, far from the austere and stringent representation which is too often associated with Europe and its institutions.
The broadcasts, most of which will be in French, will focus on discovery and will also include broadcasts in original version: musical programs, features and news stories will bring to the audience the languages which are spoken all over Europe.
Special themes covering European cities, features and acoustic explorations aiming to discover a multiplicity of cultures will allow them to experience their daily life differently, while becoming familiar with a new geographical reality.
Broadcasted in Nantes on FM, Eur@dio Nantes' programs will be open on the world and new media through webcast and podcast.
Eventually, Eur@dio Nantes could serve as a pilot program to build a network with different “international local radio stations” based in other European cities. An original way to take part in the embodiment of a European identity, but also to contribute to Nantes' emerging “internationality”.
The Eur@dio Nantes project is led by Laurence Aubron, radio broadcast journalist. To implement this project, we are seeking partnerships with local government, national government and the EC. The request for a frequency will be filed in May 2006 in order to go on the air in 2007.
